Make Resolutions of Sobriety for New Year’s Day 2024

This morning, I posted an update to Facebook about the state of my sobriety and implored readers to make their own resolutions of sobriety for New Year’s Day 2024. What follows is my Facebook post, which I will soon delete.

Sober from tobacco since Dec. 31, 2019.

Sober from nicotine since Dec. 31, 2020.

Sober from alcohol since Oct. 30, 2021.

Sober from caffeine since Dec. 2022.

I find being substance-free exhilarating. I’m as happy as I can remember. Unlike most testimonials in the media—which are very influential—mine is humanitarian, not profit-driven.

My recipe for success is to wean off all substances. After being off all substances for a while, read “Quit Like a Woman” by Holly Whitaker.

No matter how low my mood gets, I can always remind myself that I’m a good person because of my sobriety. (In addition, one can attain his or her goal weight for even better self-esteem.) Now sober, I have more happiness, willpower, and integrity than I ever have before.

New Year’s Day is fast approaching. That means now is the perfect time to make some truly transformative resolutions.

Getting off all substances feels like the youthful, innocent sense of wonder shown in the attached music video.
